This installation pays homage to Lake Devo—one of Toronto’s last great urban spaces for skateboarding. Designed to serve skateboarders, the piece embraces skate culture by drawing from the raw energy and resourcefulness that define the scene. Visually, the graphic takes inspiration from early ‘90s - ’00s skate videos, abstracting film test patterns with fuchsia and cyan bars. These elements were fed into MidJourneyAI, generating a glitch effect that mirrors the fragmented, fast-paced nature of skateboarding footage. The joinery playfully mimics the improvised, layered look of chewing gum. The composition itself reflects the ingenuity of skate culture, with forms inspired by found objects often repurposed for mastering tricks. By blending digital aesthetics with physical craft, the installation captures the spontaneity, resilience, and creativity that make spaces like Lake Devo so vital to the skateboarding community.
